Current Affairs

Defence

Defence current affairs is examined most heavily in the defence and police recruitments — NDA, CDS, AFCAT and CAPF all include a consistent seam of it — but it appears across general awareness sections too. What makes it distinctive is that almost no general study material covers it.

That gap is an opportunity. The material is bounded, the question types are consistent, and past defence exam papers plus a defence news source are effectively the only preparation needed for a category that many candidates skip entirely.

What gets asked

The recurring categories

  • Joint military exercises — the name, the participating countries and the location. Among the most reliably asked defence items.
  • Weapons and platform induction — missiles, aircraft, ships and submarines — their names, roles and the developing or supplying organisation.
  • Service appointments — the chiefs of the three services and other senior appointments.
  • Service structure and ranks — commands, formations, insignia and the organisation of each service.
  • Defence policy and procurement — indigenous development programmes, procurement decisions and policy frameworks.
  • Operations and deployments — named operations and their purpose.

Method

Building a defence awareness page

  1. Start from past defence exam papers. Extract every defence question from several years of NDA, CDS, AFCAT and CAPF papers. It reveals exactly what is asked.
  2. Follow a defence news source regularly. Not daily necessarily, but consistently enough to catch exercises, inductions and appointments.
  3. Keep a page for exercises specifically. Name, participants, location. This category alone accounts for a substantial share of defence questions.
  4. Learn the service structure once. Ranks, commands and insignia are static and reliably examined.

Questions

Defence — FAQs

Which exams test defence current affairs?

Most heavily NDA, CDS, AFCAT and UPSC CAPF, all of which include a consistent seam of defence-specific questions in their general knowledge sections. It also appears in police recruitment and, more lightly, in general awareness sections across SSC, railway and state examinations. What makes it distinctive is that general competitive-exam material does not cover it, which leaves the marks available to candidates who prepare it deliberately.

What defence topics are asked most often?

Joint military exercises — the name, the participating countries and the location — are among the most reliably examined. After those, weapons and platform inductions with their names, roles and developing organisations; service appointments including the chiefs of the three services; service structure, ranks and insignia, which are static and dependable; defence policy and procurement decisions; and named operations with their purpose.

Where do I study defence current affairs from?

Past defence exam papers and a defence news source, which together are effectively the whole preparation. Extracting every defence question from several years of NDA, CDS, AFCAT and CAPF papers shows exactly what is asked and reveals how consistently the categories recur. Beyond that, following a defence news source regularly enough to catch exercises, inductions and appointments keeps the page current.
