Exam Updates
State recruitment is the hardest category to follow, because there is no single source. Each state runs its own public service commission, police recruitment board, subordinate services board and departmental recruitment, each publishing on its own site and its own timetable.
For a candidate targeting one state that is manageable. For a candidate open to several, it means checking several sources regularly — and the effort is usually rewarded, because state recruitment fills more posts than all the central examinations combined.

State commissions — checked 19 September 2026
State portals go down for days at a time and dates are revised by notice, so each row names the commission’s own site. Andhra Pradesh’s twenty brief notifications are the month’s largest release; Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have examination dates fixed for October to December.

On the site of each recruiting body, since there is no single source. A state typically has a public service commission for administrative posts, a police recruitment board, a subordinate or staff selection board for clerical and departmental posts, a teacher recruitment body, and individual departments recruiting directly. For a candidate targeting one state this means checking a handful of sites regularly; for a candidate open to several, considerably more.
Three things that central notifications do not contain. Domicile or local candidate requirements, which determine which posts and reservation categories you can access and whose documentation takes time to obtain. The language of the examination, since most are conducted in the state language and many include a language paper. And a syllabus containing state-specific content — the state’s history, geography, culture and administration — that no national study material covers.
Sometimes, but domicile and local candidate rules generally restrict access to particular posts and reservation categories, and most state examinations expect proficiency in the state language. The rules differ between states and are based on where you were born, resided or studied. Because these are documentation matters rather than preparation ones, they are easy to overlook and expensive to discover late — confirm them well before an application window opens.
