Current Affairs
State public service commission examinations test current affairs on two levels, and candidates preparing from national sources cover only one of them. National developments appear as they do everywhere; alongside them sits a substantial layer of state-level material that no national newspaper or compilation covers adequately.
That state layer is not optional. It frequently carries a meaningful share of the general studies marks, and it is precisely where a candidate preparing for both UPSC and a state PSC will find their preparation incomplete.

State PSC current affairs — September 2026
State prelims ask the national items in the SSC form and add their own — a state cabinet decision, an award, a recruitment calendar. The Kishau agreement (six states), the WCEF in Gandhinagar and APPSC’s twenty notifications are this month’s state-linked items.

Questions
Enough that a preparation built entirely on national sources will be visibly incomplete. State budgets and allocations, state schemes and the departments running them, appointments to state bodies, legislature developments, state-level reports and regional events all appear, and in many state examinations they carry a meaningful share of the general studies marks. Past papers from your own state are the reliable way to calibrate how large that share is.
A state newspaper read alongside a national one — in the state language if that is the examination’s medium, which also builds reading speed for the paper — together with the state government’s own announcements, budget documents and departmental notifications. National compilations do not cover this material, and no substitute for local sources exists.
The national layer, entirely — schemes, legislation, appointments, economic developments and international affairs serve both. What must be added for a state examination is the state layer, kept on its own themed page, plus attention to where the two intersect: the implementation of a central scheme in your state, a centre-state dispute, or a national project located there. Those intersections are a favourite question type in state examinations.
