Current Affairs

India

National current affairs is the largest and most reliably examined slice of the subject. Government decisions, parliamentary developments, judicial pronouncements, appointments, schemes and reports appear across every examination that tests awareness at all.

What makes this material tractable is its connection to static knowledge. A bill connects to the constitutional provision it amends; a scheme to the ministry that runs it; a court decision to the article it interprets. Reading with those connections in view is what makes national current affairs memorable rather than merely voluminous.

The notification settles the question of a merchant discount rate on small digital payments: person-to-person transfers of any value and merchant payments up to ₹2,000 stay free, while charges become possible above that line. The threshold (₹2,000), the statute and section (PSS Act s.10A), the two modes named and the date are the examinable details; the RuPay exemption carries no upper limit. EOS-05 is India’s first imaging satellite designed to work from geosynchronous orbit, for near-real-time imagery in disaster, cyclone, agriculture and weather monitoring, and it was ISRO’s first successful launch of 2026 after the PSLV-C62 failure of 12 January.Vehicle, satellite name, orbit type and the “first” are the facts; the 2021 loss of EOS-03 on GSLV-F10 is the natural comparison question. What gets asked

The recurring categories

  • Government schemes and programmes — the objective, the ministry, the target group and any numerical target. The most reliably examined category of all.
  • Legislation and parliamentary developments — bills passed, the provisions they alter, and the constitutional articles involved.
  • Judicial decisions of significance — and the constitutional questions they turn on.
  • Appointments and institutional changes — to constitutional bodies, regulators, commissions and the higher judiciary.
  • Reports and indices published domestically — the publishing body, the finding, and India’s position where a ranking is involved.

Making it stick

Connecting current to static

A scheme name in isolation is a fact to be memorised and forgotten. The same scheme understood as a response to a problem, run by a specific ministry, building on a predecessor programme, is part of a structure — and structures are what memory holds. This is why candidates who study polity, economy and geography alongside current affairs retain far more of both than those who treat them as separate subjects.

Questions

India — FAQs

Which national developments matter most for competitive exams?

Government schemes and programmes are the most reliably examined category — their objective, the ministry running them, the target group and any numerical target attached. Alongside those, legislation and the constitutional provisions it alters, significant judicial decisions and the articles they turn on, appointments to constitutional bodies and regulators, and domestically published reports and indices with the finding and India’s position where a ranking is involved.

How do I remember so many schemes and programmes?

By connecting them to structures rather than memorising them as isolated names. A scheme understood as a response to a specific problem, run by a named ministry, building on a predecessor programme, is part of a framework that memory can hold — where a name in a list is not. This is why candidates who study polity and economy alongside current affairs retain far more of both than those treating them as separate subjects.

How far back should national current affairs go?

Most examinations draw on roughly the preceding six to twelve months, though schemes and institutional facts have a longer life — a scheme launched two years ago is still current if it is still running, and questions about its ministry or objective remain fair. The practical approach is to follow developments daily and maintain themed pages that carry forward, rather than trying to define a cut-off date and revise everything within it.
