CUET 2027 Exam Date, Registration and Syllabus; CUET UG 2026 Result, Answer Key, Counselling, Exam Pattern, Eligibility and Free CUET Mock Tests

CUET UG — searched most often simply as CUET — is the common entrance test for undergraduate admission to central universities and a growing list of state, deemed and private institutions. It replaced the board-marks cutoff system that preceded it, which means class 12 performance no longer determines admission at these universities in the way it once did.

Its defining feature is choice. Candidates select which subject papers to sit — languages, domain subjects and a general test — and that selection must match the requirements of every programme and university they intend to apply to. It is the one entrance examination where the most consequential decision is made before you study anything.

Overview

What CUET UG is, and who it suits

CUET UG created a single entrance route into undergraduate programmes at central universities, replacing a system in which admission turned on class 12 board marks. Candidates now sit subject papers of their choosing, and universities specify which papers and what scores they require for each programme.

The papers fall into three groups: languages, domain subjects corresponding to class 12 subjects, and a general test covering general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning and quantitative aptitude. A candidate might sit one language, two or three domain subjects and the general test — or a different combination entirely, depending on what their target programmes require.

The three paper types

  • Languages — reading comprehension, verbal ability, vocabulary and literary aptitude, in a language chosen from a substantial list.
  • Domain subjects — papers corresponding to class 12 subjects — accountancy, biology, business studies, chemistry, economics, history, mathematics, physics, political science and many more.
  • General Test — general knowledge, current affairs, general mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning and logical reasoning. Required by some programmes and optional for others.

Check the requirements of every programme before choosing papers

Each university specifies which CUET papers it requires for each programme, and the requirements are not uniform — one university’s economics programme may require mathematics while another’s does not. A candidate who selects the wrong combination discovers it at the application stage, when nothing can be done. Compile the requirements of every programme you might apply to before you register.

Selection process

How CUET UG selection works

Each stage in order, and what it actually tests.

Stages change between cycles. Confirm the structure in the notification for the cycle you are sitting.
StageFormatWhat it involves
Language papersObjective, computer-basedReading comprehension based on passages, verbal ability, rearranging parts, choosing the correct word, synonyms and antonyms, and vocabulary. Chosen from a list of languages that includes English and a wide range of Indian and foreign languages.
Domain subject papersObjective, computer-basedPapers based on the class 12 NCERT syllabus for each subject. Candidates select the domain subjects their target programmes require, typically up to a specified maximum number of papers in total.
General TestObjective, computer-basedGeneral knowledge, current affairs, general mental ability, numerical ability, quantitative reasoning at class 8 level, and logical and analytical reasoning. Required for some programmes, particularly interdisciplinary ones.
University admissionInstitution-conductedEach university uses CUET scores in its own admission process, applying its own weighting across papers, its own cutoffs and, in some cases, additional criteria.

Questions

CUET UG — FAQs

What is the CUET UG exam pattern?

In 2026, up to five subjects chosen from 37 — 13 languages, 23 domain subjects on the class 12 NCERT syllabus, and the General Aptitude Test of general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning and numerical ability — each a computer-based paper of 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, with five marks for a correct answer and one deducted for a wrong one. The subject list and limits are revised between cycles, so confirm them in the CUET 2027 information bulletin when it appears.

When was the CUET UG 2026 result declared, and how do I check it?

On 23 June 2026, two days after the final answer key, through the result link on cuet.nta.nic.in with the application number and date of birth or password. The provisional answer key and recorded responses went up on 9 June with challenges to 11 June, and the final key on 21 June. Of 15,68,867 registered, 11,64,098 appeared; one candidate scored 100 percentile in four of five subjects, 22 candidates in three subjects, 180 in two and 3,214 in one. The scorecard lists each subject’s normalised score and percentile, and it is those scores that the universities use.

When is the CUET 2027 exam date and registration?

Not yet notified as of 18 September 2026. NTA’s examination calendar of 16 September covers December 2026 to March 2027 and lists CUET PG but not CUET UG, so the CUET 2027 bulletin is expected in January 2027. In 2026 registration ran from 3 January to 4 February (fee to 7 February, with a reopening on 23–26 February) and the examination from 11 to 31 May and on 6–7 June; on that timetable, expect CUET 2027 registration in January 2027 and the examination from the second week of May 2027. The 2026 fee was ₹1,000 for up to three subjects (₹900 OBC-NCL and EWS, ₹800 SC, ST, PwBD and third gender) and ₹400 per additional subject.

What is the CUET 2027 syllabus?

The subject syllabi NTA published with the 2026 bulletin — the class 12 NCERT syllabus for each of the 23 domain subjects, reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar for the 13 language papers, and general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning and quantitative aptitude for the General Aptitude Test — stand for CUET 2027 until the 2027 bulletin says otherwise. Because the domain papers track the board syllabus, class 12 preparation and CUET preparation are largely the same work; the difference is the objective format.

What are the CUET UG counselling dates 2026?

There is no central CUET counselling: each university admits on CUET scores through its own portal. Delhi University’s CSAS opened phase 1 registration on 26 June 2026, displayed simulated ranks on 12 July, published the first seat allotment on 16 July (93,033 seats across 221 programmes in 67 colleges) with acceptance to 18 July and fee payment to 21 July, and released the second allotment on 25 July, with further rounds into August. BHU, JNU, AMU, Jamia and the other participating universities ran their own portals over the same July–August window. For 2027, register on each university’s portal as soon as the CUET result is out.

How do I choose which CUET papers to take?

By compiling the requirements of every programme and university you might apply to before you register, since each specifies which papers it requires and the requirements are not uniform — one university’s economics programme may require mathematics while another’s does not. This is the single most consequential decision in CUET preparation, because a candidate who selects a combination that does not satisfy their preferred programme finds out when applications open, with no remedy available.

Is CUET based on the class 12 syllabus?

The domain papers are, and they follow the NCERT syllabus closely — which means board preparation and CUET preparation are largely the same work. The difference is format: boards test descriptively while CUET asks objective questions with close distractors, so a student who knows the subject well can still score poorly without objective-question practice. The general test is the exception, drawing on general knowledge, reasoning and arithmetic that class 12 does not cover at all.

Should I guess in CUET?

Yes, more than instinct suggests. With five marks for a correct answer against one deducted for a wrong one, a blind guess among four options has positive expected value, and any genuine narrowing makes a guess clearly worthwhile. This is among the most forgiving marking schemes in Indian entrance examinations, and candidates who skip conservatively out of habits formed on harsher papers are giving away marks the scheme is offering them.

Do CUET scores replace board marks for admission?

For admission to the participating central universities, CUET scores are the basis of selection rather than class 12 board marks, which is the change the examination introduced. Universities apply their own weighting across the papers a candidate has taken, set their own cutoffs, and in some cases add further criteria — so the same CUET score can produce different outcomes at different institutions. Board performance may still matter for eligibility requirements.
