How is VITEEE different from JEE Main?
It is shorter and gentler — 125 questions in 150 minutes rather than 75 in 180, with individually easier questions and, since 2026, the same +4/−1 marking. It adds brief aptitude and English sections worth fifteen questions between them. Its mathematics syllabus includes discrete mathematics, which JEE Main does not, and physics gives more explicit weight to semiconductor devices. Admission follows from VIT’s own counselling process rather than a national one.
Do I need separate preparation for VITEEE?
Rarely. A JEE Main preparation covers the science content at greater depth than VITEEE requires, so the additions are small: the two syllabus areas VITEEE carries that JEE does not, brief practice on the aptitude and English sections, and — most importantly — deliberately retraining your attempt habits for a paper with no penalty. Four to six weeks of light additional work on top of an existing preparation is usually sufficient.
When is VITEEE 2027?
Not yet announced. VITEEE 2026 applications ran to 12 April 2026 with the examination between 28 April and 3 May and results from the second week of May; the 2027 cycle is expected on the same calendar with the application notice on viteee.vit.ac.in in November or December 2026.
What is the VITEEE exam pattern?
A computer-based test of 125 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours 30 minutes: Mathematics or Biology 40, Physics 35, Chemistry 35, Aptitude 10 and English 5, with four marks for a correct answer and one deducted for a wrong one. The paper is in English only and a candidate may appear once a year.
Is there negative marking in VITEEE?
Yes — the 2026 portal states that each wrong answer costs one mark against four for a correct one, with nothing for an unanswered question or one marked for review. Older guides describing VITEEE without negative marking are out of date.
Who is eligible for VITEEE?
Indian nationals and OCI/PIO holders born on or after 1 July 2004 (for 2026) who have passed or are appearing in class 12 with 60 per cent aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology) and at least 50 per cent in Mathematics (or Biology); 50 per cent aggregate for SC, ST and candidates from J&K, Ladakh and the north-eastern states.
What is the VITEEE fee?
₹1,350, paid online with the application; it is non-refundable and covers the test and the subsequent counselling. NRI applicants use a separate application with its own fee.
How does VIT counselling work?
Candidates are called rank-wise to online counselling phases from the second week of May, choose campus (Vellore, Chennai, AP or Bhopal), programme and fee category, and are allotted by rank and availability; the tuition fee is paid within the stipulated date and VIT verifies eligibility afterwards. There is no management quota and VIT has no agents.
How does VITEEE slot booking work?
After the application closes VIT opens its online test booking system for a few days, and each candidate logs in with the application number and password to choose a test city, date and time slot from the 28 April – 3 May 2026 window; the admit card is generated only after a slot is booked. Slots fill in order of booking, so early candidates get the widest choice. The 2027 booking window will be announced with the VITEEE 2027 notice, expected in November or December 2026.
When is the VITEEE result date?
VIT declared the VITEEE 2026 results from the second week of May 2026, as a rank rather than a score, on viteee.vit.ac.in, and opened online counselling in the same week for the four campuses. The 2027 result should likewise follow the examination by about a week to ten days.
Are there free VITEEE mock tests?
Yes. The free VITEEE mock tests here follow the 2026 pattern — 125 questions in the five sections, 150 minutes, +4 and −1 — with the MPCEA and BPCEA variants, and report the score by section.
