Admit Cards

An admit card is released shortly before the examination and carries the details that determine whether you actually sit it: your centre, your reporting time, your shift, and the identification and items you may bring. Candidates lose examinations to this stage every cycle, almost always for avoidable reasons.

The two most common are travel and identification. A centre in an unfamiliar city, allocated a fortnight before the date, requires planning that cannot be done on the morning. And an identity document that does not match the name on the application has ended attempts at the gate.

Admit cards and call letters: what is out, and how each body issues them

No conducting body emails an admit card. SSC and the RRBs show an exam-city slip first and the card three to four days before the shift, through the login; IBPS and SBI post call letters as a login link; UPSC posts e-admit cards about three weeks before; the Navy issues call-up letters in the candidate login. The rows below are the current ones.

The recruitment cycle: the notification fixes the rules, the result fixes who goes on; everything else has its own notice and deadline.

On release

What to verify immediately

  1. The centre address and how long it takes to reach. Not the notional distance — the actual journey, at the time of day you will be travelling, allowing for the traffic that a large examination generates around a centre.
  2. The reporting time, which is earlier than the exam time. Gates close before the paper begins, and closing times are enforced.
  3. Your personal details against your identity document. Name spelling, date of birth and photograph. Discrepancies are best raised immediately, not at the gate.
  4. The list of permitted and prohibited items. It has become stricter over time, and what was allowed in a previous cycle may not be now.
  5. Whether anything must be carried in a specific form. Some examinations require a printed photograph, a specific identity document, or the admit card printed rather than shown on a phone.

On the day

What actually goes wrong

  • Arriving after gate closing — the commonest cause of a lost attempt, and entirely a planning failure rather than a preparation one.
  • Identity document mismatch — a different name spelling between the application and the document produced.
  • Prohibited items — watches, electronic devices and stationery that the instructions excluded.
  • Not carrying a required photograph — several examinations require one to be affixed or carried separately.

None of these is a hard problem. All of them are solved by reading the admit card instructions properly on the day it is released, and by making the journey to the centre — or at least researching it seriously — before the morning of the examination.

Questions

Admit Cards — FAQs

When will the SSC CGL 2026 Tier 1 admit card be released?

Through the candidate login on ssc.gov.in, not as a dated notice: the exam-city intimation appears about a week before each candidate’s shift and the admission certificate three to four days before, and Tier 1 runs from 30 September to 30 October 2026, so the first city slips are due in the last week of September. Keep the registration number and password of the new SSC portal ready; the card is not sent by email or SMS, and a candidate who cannot log in should raise it through the portal’s helpdesk well before the date.

What should I check when my admit card is released?

The centre address and the realistic journey time to it, the reporting time — which is earlier than the exam time and is enforced by gate closing — your personal details against the identity document you will carry, and the list of permitted and prohibited items, which has become stricter over time. Check all of this on the day the admit card is released rather than the night before the exam, so that any discrepancy can be raised while there is time to resolve it.

What are the most common admit card mistakes?

Arriving after gate closing, which is the single commonest cause of a lost attempt and is a planning failure rather than a preparation one; a mismatch between the name on the identity document and the application; carrying prohibited items such as watches or electronic devices; and not carrying a photograph where one is required. All four are avoidable by reading the admit card instructions carefully and researching the journey to the centre in advance.

What if there is an error on my admit card?

Raise it with the conducting body immediately through the channel the admit card or the notification specifies, rather than assuming it will be accepted at the centre. Minor discrepancies in name spelling or date of birth are sometimes resolved on production of supporting documents, but that is at the centre’s discretion and not something to rely on. The safe course is to have the correction acknowledged in writing before the examination date.
