Exam Updates

Banking Updates

Banking recruitment runs on three separate calendars. IBPS publishes an annual calendar covering its common processes; the State Bank of India advertises its own recruitments independently; and the Reserve Bank issues its own advertisements for Grade B and specialist posts.

Following all three is worth the effort for anyone preparing seriously, because the calendars rarely clash and a candidate prepared for the shared syllabus can sit several examinations in a single cycle.

What to watch

Across the three channels

IBPS calendar and notifications
An annual calendar covering the common recruitment processes for probationary officers, clerks, specialist officers and regional rural banks, followed by individual notifications. Section marks, timings and the weighting between mains and interview have all been adjusted between cycles.
SBI advertisements
Issued independently, on the bank’s own timetable. SBI revises its pattern more frequently than IBPS, including section marks, timings and the composition of the final selection stage, so its advertisement is the only reliable source for the current structure.
RBI advertisements
For Grade B and specialist posts. The balance between objective and descriptive components in Phase 2 and the mode of answering have changed between cycles, which matters because they alter how you should prepare.
State-wise and language requirements
Clerical recruitments apply state preferences and local language proficiency conditions, both of which are set out in the notification and both of which affect eligibility.

Planning

Using the calendars together

Because the syllabi overlap almost completely and the calendars are staggered, a candidate with one solid preparation can realistically sit IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, SBI Clerk and IBPS RRB in a single year. The practical requirement is watching three sources rather than one, and reading each notification for the specifics — sectional timings, language requirements and the interview weighting — that differ between them.

Questions

Banking Updates — FAQs

How many banking exams can I sit in one year?

Realistically five or more, since the syllabi overlap almost completely and the three calendars — IBPS, SBI and RBI — are staggered rather than clashing. A candidate with one solid preparation can sit IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, SBI Clerk and IBPS RRB in a single cycle. The practical requirement is watching three separate sources for notifications and reading each one for the specifics that differ between them.

Does SBI follow the IBPS exam pattern?

Broadly in shape but not in detail, and SBI revises its pattern more frequently. Section marks, timings, the descriptive paper weighting and the composition of the final selection stage — which includes a group exercise alongside the interview — have all differed from the IBPS equivalent and have changed between cycles. SBI’s own advertisement is the only reliable source for the structure applying to a given recruitment.

What should I watch for in banking notifications?

Sectional timings and marks, since these have been adjusted between cycles and they determine attempt strategy; the weighting between the main examination and the interview in officer recruitments; state preference and local language proficiency requirements in clerical recruitments, which affect eligibility; and for RBI Grade B, the balance between objective and descriptive components in Phase 2, which has changed and materially alters how you should prepare.
