What is the CMAT innovation and entrepreneurship section?
A knowledge section covering entrepreneurship concepts and theories, the entrepreneurial process, innovation and business models, start-up ecosystems and funding, intellectual property basics, government schemes supporting entrepreneurship, and notable Indian entrepreneurs and ventures. Although it reads as open-ended, the material that actually recurs is bounded and can be covered thoroughly in a few weeks — which, combined with how often candidates skip it, makes it the best return available in CMAT preparation.
How is CMAT different from CAT?
CMAT includes two knowledge sections CAT does not have — general awareness, and innovation and entrepreneurship — which together are a substantial share of the paper and test study rather than aptitude. It is also far more generous on time, at nearly two minutes per question against CAT’s much tighter sectional limits, and its language section is more grammar- and vocabulary-based than CAT’s almost entirely comprehension-driven verbal section.
Is CMAT easier than CAT?
The aptitude questions are generally more approachable and the timing is considerably more generous, so in that sense yes. But CMAT is not simply an easier CAT: it asks for two sections of knowledge that CAT does not test at all, and a candidate who prepares only with CAT material will find a meaningful part of the paper unfamiliar. The difficulty is distributed differently rather than being uniformly lower.
How should I prepare for CMAT?
Use a conventional management-entrance preparation for the three aptitude sections, then add the two knowledge sections deliberately. Start daily general awareness reading three months out, weighting business and economy more than a general competitive-exam habit would, and work through the innovation and entrepreneurship material systematically about two months out. That is where the cheapest marginal marks are, because improving a quantitative percentile takes months against strong competition while covering a skipped knowledge section takes weeks.
