Overview
What BSSC Inter Level is, and who it suits
The re-advertisement of 27 September 2025 lists 94 post lines. Lower division clerks make up most of them — for departments and for each district collectorate — alongside 1,643 revenue karmcharis for the revenue and land reforms department, 1,746 panchayat secretaries and 202 panchayati raj clerks, bench clerks for the consumer commission, junior field investigators, filaria inspectors for the health department, assistant instructors in typing and typist-clerks. The corrigendum of 13 February 2026 sets the total at 26,426 — 11,636 unreserved, 3,704 SC, 247 ST, 4,514 EBC, 2,823 BC, 882 BC women and 2,620 EWS — with 8,446 for women horizontally, 539 for freedom fighters’ descendants and 1,106 across the disability categories.
The scheme is the commission’s standard and the same as the graduate-level examination’s. If applications exceed 40,000 — they do — a preliminary is held, in shifts if needed with the results equalised, of one general knowledge paper in three parts: general studies; general science and mathematics at matric level; and mental ability. It has 150 questions at four marks, one mark off per wrong answer, two hours fifteen minutes, in Hindi and English, and a candidate may bring one NCERT, Bihar board or ICSE textbook per section. Five candidates per post in each category go to a mains for which a separate advertisement, with post preferences, is promised; certificates are uploaded then and scrutinised before the final list. Qualifying marks are 40 per cent for the unreserved, 36.5 BC, 34 EBC and 32 for SC, ST, women and PwD.
How the round grew
- 19 September 2023 — 11,098 posts — Advt 02/23; applications 27 September to 9 November 2023 at ₹540 and ₹135; windows through 2024 for 27,935 applicants who had paid but not submitted; a category change for the Tanti-Tatwa community in January 2025 on the Supreme Court’s ruling.
- 27 September 2025 — 23,175 — Advt 02/23(A): no preliminary had been held; 10,976 posts from 65 departments added; earlier applicants compete for all posts without reapplying; fee ₹100 under the state’s resolution of 21 August 2025; applications 15 October to 27 November 2025.
- December to February — 26,426 — corrigenda of 15 December 2025 to 24,492, 29 January 2026 to 25,311 and 13 February to 26,426; extensions of 25 November, 15 December, 13 January and 29 January, the last taking the fee to 13 February and the form to 16 February 2026.
- Since 13 February 2026 — nothing — no date, admit card, key or result on the notice board; the 1st inter-level round of 2014 is the only precedent, with a mains, typing and shorthand tests and a physical test for some posts running to 2022.
Typing and the mains
Most lower division clerk lines require knowledge of computer operation and computer typing; the typist-clerk lines require Hindi and English typing; the panchayat secretary requires Hindi word processing on computer; the revenue karmchari requires no technical qualification. No typing speed in words a minute is stated in either advertisement — the stenographer round of 2025 sets 80 and 100 words a minute in shorthand for its labour department lines, but the inter-level round sets none. The mains scheme — on the graduate-level pattern, a qualifying Hindi paper and a 600-mark general knowledge paper — and any skill tests will be in the mains advertisement, which has not been issued.
