Overview
What MPSC Group C is, and who it suits
The advertisement of 25 June listed 1,864 clerk-typists, 461 assistant motor vehicle inspectors, 282 tax assistants, 9 industry inspectors and 3 technical assistants. The corrigendum of 22 July, giving effect to a general administration department resolution of 5 May 2026, added 1,539 village revenue officers for the revenue department, 254 assistant fisheries development officers, 11 senior record-keepers and 11 assistant superintendents for the consumer commission, and clerk-typists for rationing, food and civil supplies, tribal development, revenue and forest, and registration and stamps — 3,088 more posts, a fortnight’s extension to 5 August, and the fee to 8 August. A further corrigendum of 5 August dealt with the village revenue officer posts in scheduled areas and the children of disabled and deceased ex-servicemen.
The scheme is two-tier. The preliminary is one paper of general ability, 100 questions and 100 marks in an hour at degree standard in both languages, with a quarter of the marks off per wrong answer, and it only shortlists. The combined mains for the clerical and inspectorate posts is Paper 1, Marathi and English at fifty questions each for 200 marks, and Paper 2, general studies and aptitude at 100 questions for 200 marks, one hour each. The assistant motor vehicle inspector sits the same preliminary and then a single mains paper of 150 questions and 300 marks on mechanical and automobile engineering, in English, at diploma standard.
What the advertisement settles
- The typing certificate is a qualification, not a test — a tax assistant needs Marathi at 30 words a minute and English at 40; a clerk-typist Marathi at 30 or English at 40; an MS-CIT-type certificate under the 2013 resolution is accepted; and the certificate must be held by the mains application closing date, with a two-year post-appointment window for PwD, ex-servicemen and orphans.
- No interview — clause 8.1 lists the stages as preliminary and mains only; the recommendation follows the mains merit and certificate verification.
- Age reckoned on 1 October 2026 — except the village revenue officer, reckoned on 5 August 2026; 19 minimum, 18 for tax assistant; 38 unreserved, 43 for backward classes, orphans, EWS and sportspersons, 45 PwD, with 45 for project-affected and 55 for part-time graduates in the clerk-typist cadre.
- The computer-based test is deferred — the corrigendum of 16 July put off computer-based testing to the end of July 2027 and withdrew the challan; the preliminary is on OMR at 37 centres.
Talathi is on this page because it is in this examination
The 2023 Talathi recruitment was run by the revenue department through an outsourced online test with normalisation. The 1,539 village revenue officer posts of 2026 were added to the commission’s Group C combined examination by the corrigendum of 22 July, and are examined on its preliminary and mains. The Talathi page covers the post, its district structure and the 2023 cycle; the examination is this one.
