Mock Tests

A mock test is useful only when it resembles the examination you intend to write and when its analysis changes what you do next. A large test count without pattern matching or error review produces activity, not improvement.

Match the recruiting body, post, stage, subjects, duration and negative marking before treating a score as evidence of readiness.

Before attempting

What a credible mock must match

FeatureWhy it mattersWhat to verify
CoverageA generic test may omit state and post-specific areas.Every syllabus section appears at roughly the right depth.
StructureQuestion count and timing shape selection strategy.Papers, sections, duration and sectional locks match the notice.
ScoringWrong deductions change whether a narrowed guess is rational.Marks, penalties and qualifying rules are correctly configured.
DifficultyAn easy score can create false confidence.Questions resemble recent papers in both concept and wording.
ExplanationsA score identifies a symptom, not its cause.Solutions explain the method and why alternatives fail.

After submitting

Turn the result into the next two weeks

  1. Separate knowledge errors from execution errors. Unknown concepts need study; misreads, poor selection and calculation slips need different drills.
  2. Review correct guesses as errors. A lucky mark does not represent repeatable knowledge.
  3. Measure time by section and question type. Find where time was spent, not simply where the test ended.
  4. Choose three correction targets. A short, specific list is more usable than trying to repair the entire score report.
  5. Retest after correction time. Use a fresh paper after one or two weeks to see whether the same error class declined.

A routine that fits

Test the shared spine and the state layer separately

A general state-exam mock spreads the state-specific questions thinly across a full paper, which hides how you are performing on exactly the material that differentiates candidates. Splitting the testing routine in two fixes that in an hour a fortnight.

TestHow oftenWhat it is for
Full general paperWeekly, once the syllabus is broadly covered.Pacing, stamina, section balance and the shared national spine that every commission examines.
State-content testFortnightly, from the first month.Your own state’s history, geography, economy, schemes and administration. Finite material, and the fastest score on this list to move.
Reasoning and data drillTwice a week, fifteen to twenty minutes.A mechanical skill that decays quickly without use and appears in almost every state paper.
Full-length rehearsal at notified timingOnce a notification fixes the structure.Rehearsing the actual paper count, marks and clock, which differ between commissions and between posts.

Sit tests at the hour the paper is held

Attention, reading speed and arithmetic accuracy are all worse at hours you have never practised in. A candidate who has only taken mocks late at night has no measurement of how they perform in a morning paper, which is when most examinations are conducted.
