Pattern

CSIR NET — CSIR NET exam pattern 2026: Parts A, B and C by subject, negative marking and cut-offs

CSIR NET is a single three-hour computer-based paper of 200 marks in three parts. Part A is general aptitude and the same in every subject; Parts B and C are the subject, with Part C carrying the analytical, high-value questions. Each part caps the number of answers evaluated.

Structure by subject — total questions / maximum to attempt / marks per question / deduction per wrong answer.

Benchmark and caps

There is no part-wise cut-off; the cumulative marks of all parts build the merit list, with a benchmark of 33 per cent for General, EWS and OBC and 25 per cent for SC, ST and PwD. Answers beyond the cap in any part are discarded in the order attempted.
