AP EAPCET — Using mock tests as a measurement

For the engineering stream, a mock must give you eighty mathematics questions. Practising on a JEE-style paper with even weighting misrepresents both the pacing and, more importantly, where your preparation effort should go. Half of your score comes from one subject, and your practice should reflect it.

What to track

  • Mathematics accuracy and pace — the dominant determinant of your rank in the engineering stream.
  • Blanks — always zero — no penalty applies.
  • Time spent in mathematics — it should be roughly half your three hours, matching the question share.
  • Physics and chemistry efficiency — forty questions each; they should be worked briskly to protect mathematics time.

A mock routine matched to the weighting

  1. Use the real proportions Eighty mathematics questions, forty each in physics and chemistry. A JEE-style mock with even weighting is a different examination and produces a score that does not transfer.
  2. Time mathematics separately It should be taking around half your three hours. If it is taking less, you are rushing the section that carries half the marks; if considerably more, the other two are being squeezed.
  3. Check blanks — always zero No penalty applies. A single unanswered question in a mock means the habit is not yet automatic.
  4. Score physics and chemistry for efficiency Eighty questions between them that need to be worked briskly, because every minute saved there is a minute mathematics can use.
  5. Track mathematics accuracy over time The single number most predictive of your rank in this stream. Watch its trend rather than the paper total.

A useful exercise once you have a few mocks behind you: calculate what your score would have been with five more correct mathematics answers, and what it would have been with five more in chemistry. The difference between those two numbers is the whole argument for weighting your preparation, and seeing it in your own figures is more persuasive than being told about the eighty-forty-forty split.

Agriculture and pharmacy stream candidates

Your paper is evenly weighted across botany, zoology, physics and chemistry, so the mathematics-first guidance here does not apply. Practise in your own stream’s proportions, and direct time towards whichever of the four subjects your mocks identify as weakest — with even weighting, that subject caps your total directly.
