LSAT — How to prepare

From registration to score report

  1. Register early for the date you want Scheduling windows at Prometric are assigned in registration order, and popular centres fill; the deadline is about six weeks before the test.
  2. Learn Logical Reasoning by type Work each question type in blocks until the approach is automatic — find the conclusion, find the support, name the gap — before mixing them under time.
  3. Read dense prose daily Long editorials, judicial opinions and academic abstracts, summarised in a sentence each; Reading Comprehension is a stamina and structure skill.
  4. Do the writing early Argumentative Writing opens eight days before the test and can take up to three weeks to approve; a first-timer’s score waits for it.
  5. Decide on Score Preview before test day It is cheaper bought in advance and lets you cancel a poor score before schools see it.
  6. Set up the Credential Assembly Service Most US law schools require CAS reports; transcripts and letters take time to assemble, and each school report is a separate fee.

Indian candidates and the reading load

The mathematics-free LSAT is often assumed to be easy for strong English readers. It is not; the passages are chosen to resist skimming and the arguments to reward exact reading. Candidates from CLAT preparation have a head start in argument analysis but usually need to slow down and read for structure before they can speed up.
