RPF — Using mock tests as a measurement

A generic competitive-exam mock will give you a quarter of its questions in general awareness. The RPF paper gives you over forty per cent. That difference changes both your pacing and where your preparation should go, which is why practising in the correct proportions matters more than practising more.

What to review

  • General awareness accuracy — the most improvable number in your score, and the largest section.
  • Error count — at a third of a mark each, errors are expensive in a paper that gives you time to be careful.
  • Time left at the end — if you finish early having made avoidable errors, you rushed a paper that did not require it.
  • Arithmetic accuracy without a calculator — the level is simple; the marks are lost to slips rather than to difficulty.

Run your physical training on a fixed schedule alongside mock practice. Running, long jump and high jump all improve gradually, and the physical test arrives soon after the written result — a gap that is not reliably long enough to build fitness from nothing.

What to record after each mock

  1. General awareness accuracy by theme Polity, history, geography, science, static and current. One aggregate number across six unrelated areas cannot direct your revision.
  2. Error count, and its cost At a third of a mark each, fifteen errors is a five-mark penalty on top of the fifteen marks not earned. The score presents that as one number and hides the arithmetic.
  3. Errors split by cause Did not know, versus guessed and lost, versus knew and misread. Only the first calls for more study.
  4. Time remaining Ninety minutes for a hundred and twenty questions leaves room. Finishing early with avoidable errors means you rushed a paper that did not require it.

A generic competitive-exam mock will give roughly a quarter of its questions to general awareness. This paper gives it more than forty per cent, which means practising on generic material systematically under-trains the section that decides the outcome and over-trains the ones that do not. Insist on the real weighting even if it means using fewer, better-matched mocks.

Physical training on a fixed weekly schedule

Running, long jump and high jump all improve with regular practice and all decay when it stops. Three sessions a week alongside mock practice is enough to hold the ground you have built, and the physical stages follow the written result closely enough that there is no later window in which to rebuild it.

What an RPF practice result is worth reading for.
ObservationInterpretationAction
Score fine, awareness weakThe largest block in the paper is under-prepared.Daily short revision of a compact static sheet.
Arithmetic accurate but slowCalculation speed.Fifteen minutes of drill a day, on paper.
Reasoning inconsistentFamilies met unevenly.Work one family at a time to fluency.
Guessing widely under the deductionNo attempt policy decided in advance.Fix a rule — guess only between two defensible options — and rehearse it in mocks.
Physical events untested under timingGeneral fitness mistaken for event readiness.Rehearse the actual events to the prescribed timings, weekly.
