RPF — Study material for this exam
The general knowledge, polity and science notes carry the largest section of this paper between them, and they are the ones to work most systematically. Class 10 science in particular is finite and reliably examined, which makes it some of the most predictable marks available.
Habits that suit this paper
- Build one-page theme sheets for general awareness and revise them weekly.
- Do arithmetic on paper, without a calculator, but without rushing.
- Annotate reasoning figures rather than solving them mentally.
- Keep the physical training on the calendar alongside the study, every week.
- General awareness — the priority, kept as sheets
- Polity, the freedom movement, geography, class 10 science, static general knowledge and current affairs. One page per theme, revised weekly. Sheets get revised repeatedly; textbooks get read once.
- Arithmetic — accuracy work
- Percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, and basic mensuration. On paper, without a calculator, and deliberately unhurried given the time the paper allows.
- Reasoning — volume and annotation
- The verbal families practised for speed and the visual families practised on paper where you can mark the figures. Standard methods, learned once and then repeated.
- Current affairs — one running source
- Twenty minutes a day, maintained rather than sampled. Recognition builds through repeated exposure to the same items, which is why switching sources sets you back.
The material for RPF overlaps almost entirely with what serves SSC GD, the other railway papers and most state police recruitment, which is worth knowing if you are sitting more than one. Maintaining a single set of themed general awareness sheets and one arithmetic source, rather than parallel material per examination, halves the revision burden without reducing coverage at all.
Keep the physical schedule in the same place as the study schedule
Candidates who track their study and treat training as something that happens when there is time reliably let the training slip first. Writing the running and jump sessions into the same weekly plan as the mocks and the revision is a small administrative habit that protects the stage where written preparation counts for nothing.
A reading list for a short paper with a demanding physical stage.| Section | Read this | Do not spend time on |
|---|
| General awareness | Static pairs, Indian history, geography, polity, economy, general science and current affairs, plus material on Indian railways. | Depth in one subject. The section is broad and single-fact. |
|---|
| Arithmetic | School arithmetic to completion, practised for speed. | Advanced mathematics of any kind. |
|---|
| General intelligence and reasoning | A mixed question bank including non-verbal families, in short daily sets. | Theory. |
|---|
| Physical efficiency and measurement standards | The events, timings and measurement standards in the notification, trained for from the first month. | Assuming general fitness is preparation. The events are specific and are tested as events. |
|---|
| Documents for verification | The certificates the notification requires, checked for validity and for the reckoning date, early. | Discovering a document problem after clearing the stages. |
