RRB ALP Mock Tests

Mocks cover the written stages well. For the aptitude test, what helps is familiarity with the formats rather than a score.

Practice

RRB ALP — Using mock tests as a measurement

The written stages respond to ordinary mock practice: timed papers, the correct deduction rate, and analysis of what went wrong. The aptitude test is different. It is not a knowledge test and cannot be studied for in the usual sense, but candidates who have seen the format of reaction-time and attention batteries before perform closer to their genuine capacity than those meeting them cold under pressure.

What to work on where

  • CBT 1 — pacing. Seventy-five questions in sixty minutes with mental ability as the largest section.
  • CBT 2 Part A — accuracy across four subjects, with basic science and engineering prepared as its own subject.
  • CBT 2 Part B — trade knowledge, practised from past trade papers and your own ITI or diploma material.
  • Aptitude test — format familiarity, adequate sleep before the test, and a calm approach. Reaction-based batteries are markedly affected by fatigue and anxiety.

Practice weighted to where candidates are eliminated

  1. CBT 1 — a handful of timed papers Enough to establish pacing at seventy-five questions in sixty minutes. It screens rather than ranks, so the practice requirement is modest.
  2. CBT 2 Part A — the merit paper, practised properly Full timed papers with all four components, and Basic Science and Engineering treated as its own subject rather than as general science.
  3. CBT 2 Part B — past trade papers, repeatedly The most under-practised paper in this examination. Work them from your own trade and check against your course material.
  4. Aptitude test — familiarity rather than scores Understand what each battery asks and how it is administered. The batteries reward calm and consistency rather than preparation, but unfamiliarity costs.

The aptitude test is worth approaching differently from everything else in this process. It measures reaction time, sustained attention, concentration and judgement under repetition — attributes that respond to rest and composure far more than to study. Knowing the format so that nothing is a surprise, sleeping properly beforehand, and approaching it steadily is close to the whole of what a candidate can usefully do.

Do not practise Part B only after clearing Part A

The interval between stages is short, and the trade paper draws on material some candidates last used years earlier. Beginning trade revision only after a Part A result compresses a rebuilding job into a few weeks — and the paper is qualifying, so an incomplete job ends the attempt regardless of how well Part A went.

Where practice effort actually pays across the ALP stages.
What you seeWhat it meansWhat to change
CBT 1 comfortable, CBT 2 untestedPreparation weighted to the screening stage.Move practice to CBT 2 depth once CBT 1 is reliably clear.
Part B practice not startedIt is qualifying, so failing it ends the attempt regardless of Part A.Work the trade syllabus in parallel from the start, not after CBT 2.
Technical questions slowFormulas and procedures being reconstructed.Write the sheet from memory weekly until recall is immediate.
Aptitude test unfamiliarA distinct stage with its own format and no overlap with the knowledge papers.Practise the actual test format on a schedule.
Scores swinging between mocksNormal in a family with shift-based papers of varying difficulty.Track the trend across two months rather than reacting to any single result.
