- Mathematics
- Number system, BODMAS, decimals and fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square roots, age calculations, calendar and clock, and pipes and cisterns. Present in both CBT 1 and CBT 2 Part A.
- Mental Ability / General Intelligence and Reasoning
- Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, and statement and argument and assumption.
- General Science
- Physics, chemistry and life sciences at approximately class 10 level. Appears in CBT 1 in this general form.
- Basic Science and Engineering (CBT 2 Part A)
- Engineering drawing including projections, views, drawing instruments, lines, geometric figures and symbolic representation; units and measurements; mass, weight and density; work, power and energy; speed and velocity; heat and temperature; basic electricity; levers and simple machines; occupational safety and health; environment education; and IT literacy. Broader and more applied than the CBT 1 science section.
- General Awareness on Current Affairs
- Science and technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and other subjects of importance. A small section in both papers.
- Part B — Trade Syllabus
- Drawn from the trade syllabus prescribed by the Directorate General of Training for the candidate’s ITI trade, or from the relevant engineering diploma discipline. Common trades include electrician, fitter, mechanic (motor vehicle, diesel), instrument mechanic, wireman, tractor mechanic, armature and coil winder, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic, and machinist, alongside the diploma disciplines of electrical, electronics, mechanical and automobile engineering.
The section most candidates handle badly is Basic Science and Engineering in CBT 2 Part A. It is not the same as the general science of CBT 1 — it is applied and includes engineering drawing, units and measurement, and simple machines. Candidates who prepare it as "more class 10 science" find it does not match, and it carries merit-counting marks.
Basic Science and Engineering is the section of this syllabus most often misread, and the misreading is specific: candidates see the word science and prepare class 10 physics. It is an applied subject in its own right — engineering drawing and projections, units and measurements, mass weight and density, work power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, environment and occupational safety. Several of those are closer to an ITI first-year syllabus than to school science, and none of them is covered by a general science guide.
