SSC MTS Mock Tests

Practise the two sessions the way the exam runs them, separately timed, because the right behaviour in one is the wrong behaviour in the other.

SSC MTS — Using mock tests as a measurement

A mock that merges both sessions into one open block teaches a habit the real exam will punish. Set a timer for each session, stop when it ends, and take the short gap between them seriously — pacing across two short sessions is a distinct skill from pacing across one long paper.

What a good MTS mock tells you

  • Blanks left in Session I — there should be none. Any blank is a mark thrown away under a no-deduction rule.
  • Accuracy in Session II — the number that actually moves your score, since errors here subtract.
  • Arithmetic speed — measured as questions per minute in Session I, not as a percentage.
  • General awareness hit rate — the section most improvable between now and the exam, and the one most candidates ignore.

Running an MTS mock properly

  1. Time the sessions separately Forty-five minutes, stop, short break, forty-five minutes. Merging them rehearses a freedom the real exam does not give you.
  2. Count your Session I blanks first Before looking at the score, count unanswered questions in Session I. The target is zero, every time, and this is the fastest score improvement available to most candidates.
  3. Separate accuracy from attempts in Session II A high attempt count with mediocre accuracy is a losing pattern once a deduction applies, and the raw score alone will not show you that.
  4. Time the arithmetic on its own Note how many minutes the arithmetic took. If it ate most of Session I, the fix is fluency drilling rather than more mocks.
  5. Keep a one-line log Date, both session scores, Session I blanks, Session II accuracy. Six lines of that log will show you a trend that six individual mocks will not.

Two mocks a week is a sensible ceiling, and one a week with careful analysis beats three taken and skimmed. The value of a mock lies almost entirely in what you do in the hour after it, and candidates who take mocks daily are usually substituting the comfortable feeling of activity for the uncomfortable work of correction.

Practise in your exam language

If you intend to sit the paper in a regional language, take every mock in that language too. Switching languages between practice and the real paper costs reading speed at exactly the moment you cannot afford it, and the vocabulary used in general awareness questions is not always intuitive in translation.

What to read off an MTS practice result.
ObservationInterpretationAction
Session timing felt tightThe sessions are separately timed in this recruitment, so minutes cannot be borrowed.Practise each session to its own clock rather than sitting the paper as one block.
Accuracy fine, several questions unreadPacing rather than knowledge.Work in two passes: everything immediate first, then the rest.
General awareness inconsistent between mocksRecall decaying between sessions, which is normal for static material.Short daily revision rather than long weekly sessions.
Arithmetic errors on easy questionsCalculation slips, not concepts.Redo them writing every step; the slip rate falls quickly.
Physical preparation paused during mock seasonThe written stage has crowded out the standard.Keep training on a fixed weekly schedule regardless of the study calendar.
