Maharashtra Teaching Posts

Maharashtra fills its school teaching posts through two examinations of the State Council of Examination in Pune and one portal. The Teacher Eligibility Test qualifies a candidate for classes 1 to 8, as the Right to Education Act requires; the Teacher Aptitude and Intelligence Test, a 200-mark online test of aptitude and reasoning rather than subject knowledge, produces the score on which every management — zilla parishad, municipal, tribal department and private aided — recruits through the Pavitra portal, without interview for most posts and with a 30-mark interview for the rest.

Both are in the news. The June 2026 TET, notified in March for 28 June, was postponed on the eve of the paper after Bhiwandi police seized material with questions matching it, and no new date has been announced. TAIT 2025, examined in May and June 2025 with 2.11 lakh candidates, produced its first Pavitra recommendation list on 27 August 2026 — 13,119 teachers recommended against 19,754 advertised posts without interview — with document verification in early September and a converted round and the with-interview list to follow.

Overview

What Maharashtra Teaching Posts is, and who it suits

The TET is set under the 2013 government resolution in two papers of 150 questions and 150 marks over two and a half hours. Paper I, for classes 1 to 5, has five compulsory sections of 30 — child psychology and pedagogy, two languages, mathematics and environmental studies. Paper II, for classes 6 to 8, has the same first three sections and then either mathematics and science or social studies for 60. The pass mark is 60 per cent, 55 for SC, ST, the nomadic and denotified tribes, the special backward class, OBC and PwD candidates, and 45 for ex-servicemen and the families of the fallen under a 2022 concession. A passed candidate may sit again to improve the score, and the papers and keys of every test since 2013 are on the portal.

TAIT is different in kind. The 2025 notification of 25 April 2025 describes 120 questions of aptitude — mathematical ability, speed and accuracy, English and Marathi language ability, spatial ability, and art, interest, adjustment and personality — and 80 of intelligence — comprehension, classification, correlation, series, reasoning, coding, symbolic language and rhythmic arrangement — for 200 marks in two hours, omnibus rather than sectioned, in Marathi, English or Urdu, with no penalty for a wrong answer and no subject knowledge tested. The score is valid for one selection: under the resolution of 2 April 2026 a candidate selected through it must sit a new TAIT to compete again.

How Pavitra turns a score into a post

  • Managements advertise on the portal — the 2026 round took advertisements from 1 May to 20 August 2026 for zilla parishads, municipal councils and corporations, the tribal development department’s government schools, government Vidyaniketans and private institutions.
  • Candidates lock preferences — up to 100 for without-interview posts and 50 for with-interview posts — 6 to 16 August 2026 — after self-certifying qualifications on the portal.
  • Recommendation by TAIT merit — one to one for without-interview posts, one to three for with-interview posts where the management holds a 30-mark interview and teaching demonstration under the 2019 resolution.
  • Rounds — the first without-interview list, a converted round for posts unfilled in the ex-servicemen, part-time, ST and PESA quotas, then the with-interview list. The 2022 cycle ran to a second phase in 2025.

Pay is a stipend for the first years

Teachers recruited through Pavitra join as Shikshan Sevak on a consolidated pay before regular scales — ₹16,000 a month for classes 1 to 5 and 6 to 8 and ₹18,000 for classes 9 and 10, as the 2026 recommendation lists print it. The amount for junior college posts was not found in the documents read.

MAHATET is passed at 60 per cent — 90 of 150 — or 55 per cent for SC, ST, VJ-NT, SBC, OBC and PwD candidates and 45 per cent for ex-servicemen and the families of the fallen; the mathematics-and-science or social-studies choice in Paper II follows the subject the candidate will teach. No negative marking statement appears in the 2026 advertisement, the FAQ or the syllabus. TAIT has no pass mark: it is a ranking, and the IBPS handout states there is no penalty for a wrong answer.

What the 2025 and 2026 documents settle

  • Nine mediums for the TET — Marathi, English, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Sindhi, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi; the smaller mediums are examined in designated districts.
  • The TET keys and objections — final keys were published on 12 January 2026 for the November 2025 test, with an interim result four days later and five days to object online.
  • TAIT is machine-scored and once-valid — the result of 18 August 2025 reserved 6,320 candidates’ scores pending professional-qualification marksheets and later cancelled 2,207 results.
  • The interview is 30 marks where it exists — interview and teaching demonstration under the 2019 resolution, for managements that opt for it, at one to three from TAIT merit.
