LNAT — Reading previous papers properly

Two full practice tests in the live interface, a preparation guide, hints and tips, and sample essays with commentary are on lnat.ac.uk. Because the passages are chosen for unfamiliarity, the value of practice is in the method — locating the claim, the reasons and the assumption in a passage quickly — rather than in meeting familiar content. Broadsheet comment pieces read with the same questions in mind make good further practice.

Using the official tests

  1. Sit one test under the full timing Ninety-five minutes for 42 questions is about two minutes a question including reading; the pace is the surprise.
  2. Review every wrong answer against the passage The right answer is always in the text; the wrong ones usually import something the candidate believed.
  3. Write essays to the 40-minute clock Plan for five minutes, write for thirty, read for five; compare with the sample essays for structure and economy.
  4. Practise choosing a title fast Three titles are offered; the one on which you can argue both sides and choose is the one to take.
