PTE Academic — How to prepare

From booking to score report

  1. Confirm the variant and the minimum Check whether the institution or visa route wants PTE Academic or PTE Academic UKVI, and the overall and per-skill scores it requires; the IELTS concordance is a guide to what those mean.
  2. Build a template for each speaking type Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation all reward a fixed structure delivered without hesitation. Learn one for each and fill it with the content on screen.
  3. Practise dictation and repetition daily Repeat Sentence and Write from Dictation carry weight in listening and in speaking or writing; short daily drills raise both.
  4. Write to the form rules One sentence for Summarize Written Text, 50–70 words for Summarize Spoken Text, 200–300 for the essay. Form errors score zero regardless of content.
  5. Take a scored practice test before booking It predicts the live score closely, and results come inside two days, so a retake can be planned around the application deadline.
  6. Book with the cancellation windows in mind Free cancellation stops 14 days before the test; a 50 per cent refund is available from 13 to 8 days before; nothing inside a week.

Accent is not the issue; hesitation is

Pearson’s scoring is trained on speakers from many countries and does not penalise an Indian accent. It does penalise long pauses, false starts, self-corrections and sentences left unfinished, because all of them lower the fluency trait. A steady pace with clear word endings scores better than fast, sophisticated speech with stumbles.
