PTE Academic Previous Papers

PTE does not release past papers. Pearson’s scored practice tests, marked by the same system as the live test, are the substitute.

PTE Academic — Reading previous papers properly

Because the live test is machine-marked, practice that is marked the same way tells you far more than practice marked by a tutor. Pearson’s scored practice tests return a full score report and skills profile, which is the only way to learn how the system treats your fluency, your pauses and your habit of trailing off before the microphone closes. Free sample questions for every type are on the official site, and the official guide and app carry more.

What to take from each practice test

  • Speaking scores by trait — content, oral fluency and pronunciation are reported separately, and the fix for each is different — fluency responds to rehearsed templates and steady pace, pronunciation to stress and clear word endings.
  • Which integrated tasks pull a skill down — a listening score depressed by Write from Dictation and Summarize Spoken Text is a writing-speed problem as much as a listening one.
  • Negative-scoring losses — count marks lost on multiple-answer and Highlight Incorrect Words items; a candidate who selects generously loses more than one who selects only when sure.
  • Time discipline in the summaries — Summarize Written Text has ten minutes and a strict single-sentence, 5–75-word form; a second sentence scores zero for form.
