CMAT — Study material for this exam
For general awareness and innovation and entrepreneurship, the useful material is a daily business newspaper, a current affairs source and a structured treatment of the entrepreneurship concepts and government schemes that recur. The economy notes below are the closest fit on this site, and past CMAT questions define the rest of the ground.
A routine that suits CMAT
- A business newspaper daily, for general awareness and the entrepreneurship section together.
- Twenty minutes of current affairs revision from a single running source.
- A defined entrepreneurship reading list worked through over a few weeks.
- Conventional aptitude practice, timed but unhurried given the generous allowance.
- A business newspaper — the core knowledge source
- Read daily for corporate news, economic policy, appointments and the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It serves general awareness and the entrepreneurship section simultaneously, which is why it is the first item rather than a supplement.
- A defined entrepreneurship reading list
- Built from past papers into a dozen or so topics, then worked through systematically. Any standard introductory material on entrepreneurship covers the concepts; what matters is that the list is bounded and finished.
- Conventional aptitude notes
- Quantitative, reasoning and language at standard management-entrance level, shared with whatever else you are preparing for. Nothing here needs to be CMAT-specific.
- Grammar and vocabulary — a modest addition
- The language section leans more on rules and words than CAT does. A short grammar sheet and a running vocabulary list, worked for a few weeks, covers the difference.
Keep the entrepreneurship material as a single document you build yourself rather than a book you read. A page per topic, written from your reading and organised by the categories the past papers use, is revisable in an hour in the final week — which is exactly what a bounded knowledge section needs and exactly what a textbook cannot provide.
Revise general awareness in short frequent passes
Like every cumulative knowledge section, it responds to frequency rather than duration. Twenty minutes daily across three months produces far better recall than the same total hours spent in long sessions near the examination, because recognition is built by repeated exposure rather than by concentrated attention.
Reading for a paper with a general awareness section most management entrances omit.| Section | Read this | Do not spend time on |
|---|
| Quantitative techniques and data interpretation | Arithmetic, basic algebra and data interpretation practised for accuracy and pace. | Advanced mathematics. |
|---|
| Logical reasoning | Standard families drilled in short sets. | Extended theory. |
|---|
| Language comprehension | Grammar, usage and comprehension at moderate difficulty. | Dense argumentative reading practice. |
|---|
| General awareness | Current affairs and static general knowledge, prepared deliberately — this section distinguishes this paper from most management entrances. | Skipping it because other entrance tests do not set it. |
|---|
| Innovation and entrepreneurship, where set | The prescribed topics, checked in the current bulletin since this section has varied between cycles. | Assuming the section list from a previous year. |
