Police Recruitment — Study material for this exam

For police papers, the general knowledge, polity, geography and science notes carry more marks between them than anything else, and they are the ones to work most systematically. Class 10 science in particular is finite and reliably examined, which makes it some of the most predictable material available in these papers.

Building the state-specific layer

  • Use your state board’s textbooks for state history, geography and culture.
  • Extract state questions from past papers of your own recruitment into a single revision sheet.
  • Learn the state’s districts, rivers, major festivals and administrative structure — these recur.
  • Follow state-level news alongside national current affairs.
General knowledge — the priority, kept as sheets
History with the freedom movement emphasised, polity, geography, general science, static knowledge and current affairs. One page per theme, revised weekly, because sheets get revised and books get intended.
The state layer — built from local sources
Your state board’s textbooks for history, geography and culture, plus a sheet of districts, rivers, festivals and administrative structure drawn from past papers.
Arithmetic and reasoning — fluency projects
School-level content practised for speed and accuracy rather than studied for depth. On paper, without a calculator, against a clock.
Language — a modest daily habit
Comprehension, grammar and vocabulary in whichever language your recruitment offers. A section commonly conceded and readily improved.

The material for police recruitment overlaps almost completely with what serves SSC GD, RPF and other constable-level examinations, which is worth knowing if you are sitting more than one. Maintaining a single set of themed general knowledge sheets and one arithmetic source, rather than parallel material per recruitment, halves the revision burden without reducing coverage — and the only recruitment-specific document you genuinely need is the state sheet.

Follow state news alongside national current affairs

State schemes, appointments and developments appear in state recruitment papers and in no national compilation. Ten minutes a day with a state news source, with anything notable added to your state sheet, covers a category of questions that most candidates meet unprepared.

On sequencing the material across a preparation: begin the general knowledge sheets and the physical training in the same week, because both are cumulative and neither can be compressed later. Add the state layer in the second week, once you have read your recruitment’s notification and know how much of it applies. Treat arithmetic and reasoning as finite projects with a beginning and an end — built to reliable accuracy over two or three months, then maintained with weekly practice. Keep the language section as a short daily habit throughout rather than a phase. That division between the habits and the projects is what leaves the final month free for timed mocks and revision rather than for material that should have been finished earlier.
