- CBT 1 — Mathematics
- Number system, BODMAS, decimals and fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square roots, age calculations, calendar and clock, and pipes and cisterns.
- CBT 1 — General Intelligence and Reasoning
- Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, and statement and argument and assumption.
- CBT 1 — General Awareness and General Science
- Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history including the freedom struggle, Indian polity and the Constitution, economics, environmental issues, and general scientific and technological developments; alongside physics, chemistry and life sciences at approximately class 10 level.
- CBT 2 — Supporting sections
- General awareness; physics and chemistry at class 10 level; basics of computers and applications covering architecture, input and output devices, storage, networking, operating systems, MS Office, viruses and internet basics; and basics of environment and pollution control covering air, water, noise and soil pollution, their effects and control, and climate change and waste management.
- CBT 2 — Technical Abilities
- Drawn from the candidate’s engineering discipline group. Civil covers engineering mechanics, building materials, construction, surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, environmental and transportation engineering, and structural analysis and design. Mechanical covers engineering mechanics, strength of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, manufacturing and industrial engineering. Electrical covers circuit theory, machines, power systems, measurement and instrumentation, and utilisation. Electronics and signal and telecommunication cover electronic devices, digital electronics, communication systems, microprocessors, measurement and control systems. Computer science covers programming, data structures, databases, operating systems and networking.
Read only the Technical Abilities syllabus for your own discipline group. It is a substantial body of material — comparable to a diploma revision — and the hundred marks it carries in CBT 2 are more than the rest of that paper and the whole of CBT 1 combined in importance to your final position.
The two syllabi in this examination are almost entirely disjoint, and reading them together is what produces confused preparation. CBT 1 is school mathematics, school science, reasoning and general awareness — material any graduate or diploma holder can revise in weeks. CBT 2 is two thirds a diploma-scale technical syllabus in your own discipline. They share a candidate and very little else, and the sensible response is to plan them as two separate projects with two separate timelines.
