KPSC KAS — How to prepare

From now to the select list

  1. To 15 November — the prelims Two papers of general studies with Karnataka’s own history, geography and administration weighted in Paper II. Mental ability is at SSLC level and is 30 questions of 200 — the cheapest marks on the paper.
  2. Apply for the mains in January The mains notification is due on 21 or 22 December with applications to 11 January 2027; a candidate whose degree result was awaited proves the pass here.
  3. Write the mains in one language The essay and general studies papers are answered wholly in Kannada or wholly in English. Choose by the language you write fastest in, not the one you read most in.
  4. Do not neglect the qualifying papers Kannada and English at 35 per cent bar the personality test if failed, and a candidate from another medium has 150 marks of Kannada to pass.
  5. Keep the certificates current

Confirm the structure against your own notification

KPSC and the state’s other recruiting bodies revise paper structure, marks, syllabus detail and eligibility between recruitment cycles, and have done so more than once in recent years. Everything here describes the shape the recruitment has held; the notification for the cycle you are sitting is the document that decides it. Read it end to end before you plan around any figure.
