- General studies of the state, 40 questions; general science and technology, environment and ecology, 30; general mental ability at SSLC level, 30.
- Mains — qualifying Kannada and English
- Comprehension, précis, usage and short writing at SSLC first-language standard, 150 marks each.
- Mains — essay
- Two or more essays of 250 marks in three hours, wholly in Kannada or English.
- Mains — general studies 1 to 4
- Four papers of three sections each: history and culture, geography and economy, polity and governance, science and technology, ethics and administration, and the state’s own development, as Schedule II sets them.
