Telangana Technical Posts — Study material for this exam

For the core paper

  • Your own graduation notes and standard texts — the syllabus is close to the undergraduate curriculum, so a new set of books is rarely what is needed.
  • A formula sheet per subject, written by you — the single highest-return document in this preparation, and worthless if bought rather than built.
  • Objective question banks in the discipline — for the format rather than the content — the shift from derivation to recall takes practice.
  • Relevant codes and standard values — the design constants and provisions that recur in objective questions.

For general studies

  • One polity reference and one economy text — read once properly rather than repeatedly skimmed.
  • Telangana state board textbooks — for state geography, history and civics at the level examined.
  • A daily current-affairs note — national and state, kept in your own words.
  • The state’s irrigation and infrastructure material — worth knowing for a technical candidate, and it recurs in the state general studies block.

The formula sheet is the deliverable

For an objective core paper the single document that decides your score is a formula and standard-results sheet you wrote yourself, subject by subject, from your own graduation notes. Bought compilations do not work the same way: the value lies in having decided what belongs on the page, which is an act of revision in itself. Aim for one page per subject, rewritten from memory once a week in the final month.

What to read, and what to stop reading

  • Your own degree textbooks, selectively — for the chapters the weight table ranks highest. Reading a degree text cover to cover is a poor use of the months available.
  • A single objective question bank for the discipline — because the paper tests recognition and speed. Volume of solved questions matters more here than the choice of source.
  • The relevant codes, manuals and standard values — where your discipline uses them. Examinable, memorisable and commonly skipped as reference material.
  • The department’s own material for context — the irrigation, public health or municipal system you are applying into. It costs an evening and it repeatedly proves useful.
  • One general studies source per subject, plus the state layer — kept deliberately small so it can be revised, since this is the half that has to be maintained over months alongside technical revision.

Do not restart the degree

The instinct on opening an old textbook is to begin at chapter one and read forward. Four weeks later a candidate has revised the introductory chapters thoroughly and none of the ones the paper actually weights. The weight table exists to prevent exactly this, and following it feels wrong precisely because it starts in the middle of books.
