General studies — prelims 140, mains 120
General science; Indian history and the national movement; Indian polity, economy and culture; agriculture, commerce and trade; population, ecology and urbanisation; world geography and India’s natural resources; current national and international events; general intelligence; special knowledge of Uttar Pradesh’s education, culture, agriculture, trade, social customs and traditions.
General Hindi — prelims 60
Opposites; sentence correction; one-word substitution; words of the same use; adjectives and their nouns; synonyms — ten questions each.
Hindi and drafting — mains Part 1, 100
Heading, précis and explanation of a passage; précis of a government letter in tabular form; correspondence — official, semi-official, office memorandum and notes; definitional vocabulary English to Hindi and Hindi to English; idioms and phrases; computer knowledge.
Hindi vocabulary — mains Part 2, 60
Five items of twelve — the prelims heads at greater length.
Hindi essay — 120
Three sections — literature and culture, social sphere, political sphere; science, environment and technology, economic sphere, agriculture and trade; national and international events, natural calamities, national development programmes — one 600-word essay from each.
