CELPIP — Reading previous papers properly

The free online sample test shows each component’s interface, timing and task style and is the first thing to do. Paragon’s paid practice tests return scores on the CELPIP scale, and its writing and speaking packages return rater feedback against the published performance standards, which is the only way to learn how the raters read tone, completeness and length. Free information sessions and webinars run online through the year.

What to take from each practice test

Listening under the once-only rule — note-taking during the audio matters because the questions appear afterwards in several parts.
Reading pace — 38 questions in under an hour across four text types; the correspondence and diagram parts reward scanning.
Writing length and tone — 150 to 200 words for each task, every prompt point covered, and a register that fits the reader — a landlord, a manager, a friend.
Speaking time used — answers that stop well short of the 60 to 90 seconds lose task-fulfilment marks.
