What the listening and reading test
Understanding specific information, main ideas, purpose and tone in conversations, announcements, workplace messages and news; matching statements to speakers or viewpoints; completing an email or a summary from a diagram. Recordings play once, and the answer choices appear on screen only after the audio in several parts.
What the writing raters score
Content and coherence, vocabulary, readability — grammar, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation — and task fulfilment, which includes covering every point in the prompt, using the right tone for the reader and staying in the 150–200 word range.
What the speaking raters score
Content and coherence, vocabulary, listenability — rhythm, pronunciation, intonation, pauses and grammar — and task fulfilment, including relevance, completeness, tone and using the time available.
