Notes
MAT — Study material for this exam
The economy notes and current affairs material serve the business environment section, and the same reading serves several other management entrances and the interview stage. Among the aptitude notes, the data interpretation material deserves particular attention because data analysis and sufficiency is a full section here rather than a component of one.
A routine that serves several exams at once
- A business newspaper daily — it feeds MAT, CMAT, XAT and every interview.
- Data sufficiency practice twice a week, since it is a full section here.
- Conventional aptitude practice, timed but unhurried.
- Vocabulary and grammar work, since MAT verbal is more rule-based than CAT.
- A business newspaper — the one genuine addition
- Read daily for the economic and business environment section. It also covers CMAT general awareness, XAT general knowledge and every interview you will sit, which makes it a single habit paying into four places.
- Economy notes — for the static half
- The structure of the Indian economy, policy and reform, banking and finance, and the international institutions. This part can be studied once and revised, unlike the current half.
- Data sufficiency practice — the technique block
- A full component here and absent from CAT. A few dedicated sessions to establish the method, then occasional maintenance.
- Conventional aptitude material — shared
- Whatever you are already using. MAT sits below CAT in difficulty across all four aptitude sections, so no additional or harder material is warranted.
The vocabulary and grammar point is worth repeating because it applies to several examinations at once. MAT, NMAT, SNAP and CMAT all test language more directly than CAT does — rules and words rather than inference from passages — which means a candidate preparing across this set should maintain a grammar sheet and a running word list even though their primary target does not reward them. It is a small habit that quietly serves four papers.
Keep one shared set of notes
A candidate sitting MAT, CMAT and XAT in the same season is preparing largely the same material with different emphases. Maintaining one set of aptitude notes, one economy and business file and one vocabulary list — rather than parallel folders per examination — halves the revision burden without reducing coverage at all.
