NIACL AO — What the syllabus covers

The advertisement names sections; the 2023 and 2025 papers show what fills them. Phase I is a speed paper; Phase II asks the same subjects at greater length and adds general awareness and, for specialists, a technical paper whose broad topics the advertisement lists in an annexure.

English Language (Phase I 30, Phase II 50)

  • Reading comprehension — one or two passages on economy, insurance or social themes.
  • Cloze test, fillers, error spotting, sentence improvement, para-jumbles, word usage — grammar and vocabulary in context.

Reasoning Ability (Phase I 35, Phase II 50)

  • Puzzles and seating arrangement — linear, circular, floor, box, scheduling.
  • Syllogism, inequality, coding-decoding, alphanumeric series — quick marks.
  • Blood relations, direction, order and ranking, input-output, data sufficiency, logical reasoning — Phase II adds the longer forms.

Quantitative Aptitude (Phase I 35, Phase II 50)

  • Simplification, approximation, number series, quadratic equations — speed questions.
  • Arithmetic — percentages, profit and loss, ratio, averages, interest, time and work, speed, mixtures, mensuration.
  • Data interpretation — table, bar, line, pie and caselet sets; Phase II uses two-variable and missing-data sets.

General Awareness (Phase II 50)

  • Insurance — general-insurance products and terms — motor, health, fire, marine, liability, crop; IRDAI and its regulations; PSU insurers and their history; GIC Re; reinsurance; recent insurance news.
  • Financial sector — RBI, SEBI, PFRDA, budget and economic survey figures, banking and financial news.
  • Current affairs and static GK — six months of national and international events; polity, geography, awards, sports, important days.

Technical and professional knowledge (Specialists, Phase II 40)

  • Stream subjects — the advertisement’s Annexure A lists the broad topics for Finance and Accounts, Legal, Automobile, Health, IT and other streams.

Descriptive English (Phase II 30)

  • Letter writing (10) and essay (20) — typed in 30 minutes; formal or official letters and essays on insurance, economy and social themes.
