NIACL Assistant 2026 Notification, Exam Pattern, Syllabus, Salary, Eligibility, State-wise Cut-off and Free Mock Tests

NIACL Assistant is the clerical-cadre recruitment of The New India Assurance Company, run state by state: a candidate applies against the vacancies of one state, sits a Tier I and a Tier II online examination, and then passes a regional language test in that state’s language before selection. The 2024 recruitment, advertised on 16 December 2024, offered 500 posts, held Tier I on 27 January 2025 and Tier II on 2 March 2025, and published state-wise and category-wise cut-offs for both tiers.

The paper is the bank-clerk pattern with a quarter-mark penalty and a 250-mark Tier II, but the state-wise merit list changes the arithmetic: the cut-off in a state with ten posts and the cut-off in one with sixty are different examinations. This guide reads the 2024 advertisement and cut-off sheets so the next notice can be judged state by state.

Reading the state table

The cut-off a candidate must beat is that of their own state and category, and states with few posts can have higher cut-offs than states with many. The company publishes both tiers’ state-wise cut-offs after each cycle; the 2024 sheets are the best guide to where a given score would have stood.

Overview

What NIACL Assistant is, and who it suits

New India Assurance recruits Assistants in most years between officer recruitments — 2018, 2023, 2024 — and always state-wise: the advertisement lists vacancies for each state and union territory, the candidate applies to one, and the examination centre must be in that state. Merit lists are drawn state by state, and a regional language test in the state’s language is mandatory before appointment.

The examination is the bank-clerk examination in structure and level, and a candidate prepared for IBPS Clerk needs to add only a general-awareness stream on insurance and the discipline of the state cut-off. The Tier II is 250 marks in five sections of 50, and the merit list is drawn from it alone — Tier I is qualifying and the language test carries no marks.

Who NIACL Assistant suits

  • Graduates who can read, write and speak a state’s language — the language test is qualifying but compulsory, and it is taken in the state applied to.
  • Bank clerk aspirants — the same syllabus at the same level, with insurance added to awareness.
  • Candidates in states with large vacancy counts — where the state cut-off is lower; the advertisement’s state table is the first thing to read.
  • Those who want a public-sector clerical career with promotion to officer — the company promotes from the clerical cadre.

  • Tie-break — equal marks in the merit list are resolved by age, the older candidate first.
  • Bond — a training-cost undertaking of ₹25,000 and a service bond apply on appointment.

How the marks work

A quarter of the marks of a question is deducted for each wrong answer in both tiers. Tier I is qualifying, with sectional minimums; Tier II is 250 marks in a single two-hour sitting and the state-wise merit list is drawn from it alone, subject to passing the regional language test. Scores are equated across sessions. The 2024 advertisement’s Tier II section table follows the company’s long-standing five-section pattern; confirm the question counts in the next notice.

Questions

NIACL Assistant — FAQs

When is the NIACL Assistant 2026 notification?

Not issued as of 16 September 2026. The last recruitment was advertised on 16 December 2024 for 500 posts, with Tier I on 27 January and Tier II on 2 March 2025; its selection and medical lists are on the recruitment page at newindia.co.in. Assistant recruitments have run in 2018, 2023 and 2024, usually advertised at the end of a year, so the December–January window is when a notice would be expected.

What is the NIACL Assistant exam pattern?

Tier I: 100 questions in 60 minutes — English 30, Reasoning 35, Numerical Ability 35 — each timed at 20 minutes and qualifying. Tier II: 250 marks in 120 minutes across five sections of 50 marks — English, Reasoning, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge and Numerical Ability — from which the state-wise merit list is drawn. A quarter mark is deducted for each wrong answer in both tiers. A qualifying regional language test follows.

What is the eligibility for NIACL Assistant?

Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university, English as a subject at class 10 or 12, knowledge of reading, writing and speaking the regional language of the state applied to, and an age of 21 to 30 years on the cut-off date (1 December 2024 last time) with the usual relaxations. A candidate applies against the vacancies of one state only. The fee was ₹850 including GST, or ₹100 for SC, ST and PwBD.

What is the NIACL Assistant salary?

The 2024 advertisement quoted the clerical scale ₹22,405–1,305(1)–23,710–1,425(2)–26,560–1,605(5)–34,585–1,855(2)–38,295–2,260(3)–45,075–2,345(2)–49,765–2,500(5)–62,265 with total emoluments of about ₹40,000 a month at the start in a metro, plus medical benefits, group mediclaim and leave travel subsidy. The general-insurance wage revision since then will raise the figures in the next notice.

What was the NIACL Assistant 2024 cut-off?

Cut-offs are state-wise and category-wise. The published Tier II sheet (out of 250) shows, for example, Andhra Pradesh at 149.38 for UR, 133.45 OBC and 142.83 EWS, with other states higher or lower depending on their vacancies; the Tier I and Tier II sheets are on the recruitment page and are the right benchmark for a practice score.
