Syllabus

NIACL Assistant — What the syllabus covers

The advertisement names the sections; the 2023 and 2024 papers fill them. Tier I is a speed paper at clerk level; Tier II asks the same subjects at greater length and adds two knowledge sections that reward a few weeks of reading.

English Language (Tier I 30, Tier II 50)

  • Reading comprehension — one passage, often on economy or a social theme.
  • Cloze test, fillers, error spotting, para-jumbles, sentence improvement, spelling and vocabulary — grammar in context.

Reasoning (Tier I 35, Tier II 50)

  • Puzzles and seating arrangement — linear, circular, floor and box puzzles at clerk level.
  • Syllogism, inequality, coding-decoding, alphanumeric and number series — quick marks.
  • Blood relations, direction sense, order and ranking, alphabet test — two to four each.

Numerical Ability (Tier I 35, Tier II 50)

  • Simplification and approximation, number series, quadratic comparison — speed questions.
  • Arithmetic — percentages, ratio, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance, mensuration.
  • Data interpretation — one or two table or chart sets.

General Awareness (Tier II 50)

  • Insurance — general-insurance products and terms, IRDAI, the four PSU general insurers and GIC Re, insurance schemes, recent insurance news.
  • Financial and economic awareness — RBI, budget, banking terms and news.
  • Current affairs and static GK — six months of events; polity, geography, awards, sports, important days.

Computer Knowledge (Tier II 50)

  • Fundamentals — hardware, software, memory, input-output devices, operating systems.
  • MS Office, internet, e-mail, networking basics, security, abbreviations and shortcuts — the standard bank-clerk computer syllabus.

Regional language test (qualifying)

  • Reading, writing and speaking the state’s language — a short test before final selection; no marks.
