NIACL Assistant — How the paper is structured

The pattern below is the 2024 advertisement’s. Structurally it is the bank-clerk pattern; what changes the strategy is that the merit list is state-wise, so the target score is the cut-off of one state and category rather than a national number.

How the marks work

A quarter of the marks of a question is deducted for each wrong answer in both tiers. Tier I is qualifying, with sectional minimums; Tier II is 250 marks in a single two-hour sitting and the state-wise merit list is drawn from it alone, subject to passing the regional language test. Scores are equated across sessions. The 2024 advertisement’s Tier II section table follows the company’s long-standing five-section pattern; confirm the question counts in the next notice.

Tier I is a filter: three 20-minute sections with a quarter-mark penalty and sectional minimums, and its marks are not carried forward. Tier II is a single 120-minute sitting of five 50-mark sections, so time can be moved between sections — the knowledge sections (general awareness and computer) can be cleared quickly and their minutes given to reasoning and numerical ability. The regional language test carries no marks but ends the candidature if failed; a candidate from another state applying where posts are many should treat it as a real preparation item.
