APPSC Group 1 — How to prepare

A twelve-month plan

  1. Months one to three — the foundation, written The general studies syllabus across history, polity, economy, geography and science, with the Andhra Pradesh layer built in rather than added on. One handwritten answer a day from the first week.
  2. Months four to six — the state and the ethics Andhra Pradesh history, economy and administration as a body of reading that serves three papers. Paper III’s law and ethics component as a subject of its own, with case-based practice.
  3. Months seven to nine — papers under the clock Weekly descriptive papers, fortnightly screening papers with the penalty, monthly language sittings. The archived mains papers as the question bank.
  4. Months ten to twelve — hold and sharpen Maintenance rather than new material. The notification may take a year to arrive and the mains may move by eight months once it has; a routine that survives that beats a peak timed to a date.

What the 2023 cycle taught

  • The mains date is not the mains date — first announced for September 2024, held in May 2025. A candidate who peaked for the first date was eight months past it by the second.
  • The paper may be on a screen — the 2025 mains displayed the question paper on tablets while answers were written by hand. Rehearse reading from a screen and writing on paper.
  • Two vacancies were held by court order — and the whole list is subject to pending petitions. A provisional selection is not an appointment.
  • Uniformed posts have their own age and their own body — DSP at 21 to 30 with height, chest and vision standards. Check the post code before the syllabus.

Confirm the structure against your own notification

APPSC revises paper structure, marks, syllabus detail and eligibility between recruitment cycles, and has done so more than once in recent years. Everything here describes the shape the recruitment has held; the notification for the cycle you are sitting is the document that decides it. Read it end to end before you plan around any figure.
