APPSC Group 1 — Using mock tests as a measurement

A routine built around the scheme

A descriptive paper every week, from the start One of the five marked papers, three hours, by hand, to the question types of the archived papers. Scored against a model, and reread a month later.
A screening paper fortnightly Both papers, 240 questions in 240 minutes, with a third of a mark off per wrong answer. Learn from the score when to leave a question.
A language sitting monthly One Telugu and one English composition to time. These papers remove candidates who never practised them.
A full mains simulation before the mains Seven papers across a week, in order, to find where concentration and handwriting actually fail.
Mock interviews from your own form Once the mains is written. The board reads the application; rehearse from it.

Score the screening with the penalty or it measures the wrong thing

A screening mock scored without the one-third deduction rewards guessing that the real paper punishes. Score every practice paper as the commission scores it, compare the mark with the mark you would have had on unanswered guesses, and change the rule you guess by until the guesses stop costing you.
