APPSC Group 1 — Reading previous papers properly

The old question papers page holds the Group 1 mains papers — Telugu, English and Papers I to V — for the 2011, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2023 cycles, and the 2016 screening test. The 2023 screening papers are on the keys page as final keys in question-paper format. That is more official material than exists for any other APPSC group, and it is enough to see how the descriptive papers are phrased, how the Andhra Pradesh questions are set, and how the essay topics have moved.

How to work the mains papers

  • Write full answers to time, not notes — reading a good answer teaches you what one looks like; writing a bad one under a clock teaches you your own pace, which is what the examination tests.
  • Track the essay topics across cycles — state policy, social questions and national debates, in roughly stable proportions. The 2023 essay paper is the most recent evidence of the balance.
  • Mine the Andhra Pradesh questions from every paper — history, geography, economy and administration of the state recur in Papers II and IV and inside the essay. Collected into one file, they are the most exam-specific revision document available.
  • Work the older papers for the subject, not the scheme — the 2011 and 2016 papers were set under earlier schemes. The subject matter carries; the paper structure does not.

Use the screening keys as practice papers

The final keys for the 2023 screening test are published in question-paper format — the questions with the correct options marked. Cover the marks, sit the paper to time with the one-third penalty applied, then check. It is the only official screening practice available for the current scheme.
