BPSC Combined Competitive Examination — How to prepare

From the preliminary to the recommendation

  1. Read the advertisement and the calendar together The 72nd advertisement fixes posts, age and scheme; the calendar of 14 August 2026 gives the preliminary as 25 October and marks it tentative; the home page carries the notice that will confirm it.
  2. Build general studies with Bihar in it The preliminary names Bihar’s history, geography, rivers, economy since independence and role in the national movement; the mains papers repeat the emphasis. A standard general studies base plus a Bihar-specific book covers both.
  3. Practise with the penalty and option E The 72nd is the first cycle advertised under the option E rule, so a blank question costs a third of a mark unless E is marked; drill the habit in every mock.
  4. Start writing before the preliminary result Ten times the vacancies go through, and the mains has followed the preliminary result by three to five months in the last two cycles — 23 January to 25 April in the 70th, 18 November to 25 April in the 71st. Answer-writing for general studies I and II and the essay is the whole of the counted marks.
  5. Choose the optional for a pass, and the post for a career The objective optional only qualifies; pick the subject you can clear with least reading. The service preference recorded in the mains form cannot be changed afterwards.
  6. Keep the certificates dated Every certificate must be issued by the application closing date, and the upload is what the interview board checks against the original.

Confirm the structure against your own notification

BPSC, BSSC, the constable board and the state’s other recruiting bodies revise schemes, ratios and dates between cycles, and the advertisement for your cycle is the document that binds. The figures here are from the latest documents on the official sites at the date checked and are labelled where they come from an older cycle.
