Syllabus

Karnataka Departmental Examinations — What the syllabus covers

Accounts and treasury
Accounts Lower and Higher on the state’s financial and treasury rules; the Subordinate Accounts Service examination in three parts across eleven papers, objective and descriptive; Treasury Accounts in two parts; and the electricity audit and accounts papers at lower and higher level.
Revenue, registration and taxes
Revenue Lower and Revenue Higher in two parts on the Land Revenue Act and the revenue manuals; Registration; Commercial Taxes at higher and lower level; Excise; Municipal and Local Boards.
Departmental papers
The Police Manual; Prisons; Forest, and the two forest-guard papers revised in 2016 to cover the Forest Act and rules, wildlife protection, forest conservation, the Forest Code, the Forest Accounts Code and the Forest Rights Act, each of 100 marks in three hours; Cooperation and Cooperative Audit; and the other departments’ manuals and Acts.
Law
General Law in two parts on the general Acts and procedure; the Indian Contract Act; Special Laws and Service Rules; the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal examination with its 2016 and 2020 additions; and the consumer protection service examination.
Kannada language
For state employees, a sixth-standard reader and a short-story collection; for IAS, IPS and IFS officers, a tenth-standard second-language reader the commission publishes. Two written papers and a viva.
