Pattern
| Rule | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pass mark 45 out of 100 | In every test, and in each part of a split test separately — 27 and 18 in a 60/40 test, 36 and 9 in an 80/20 test. |
| Objective parts are computer-based | Four-option questions, shuffled, answered by mouse, with a rough sheet provided and a mock test on the commission’s site. |
| Descriptive parts are handwritten | On a different day from the objective part, in English or Tamil or both. |
| With books means the allowed list | Bare Acts from any publisher; attested photocopies with a page count; no guides, digests or notes. |
| No revaluation | And no request for the cause of failure. Objections to the tentative key by email within a week are the only remedy. |
TNPSC revises paper structure, marks, syllabus detail and eligibility between recruitment cycles, and has done so more than once in recent years — the Tamil eligibility component itself is a recent addition.
