TGPSC Group 2 — How to prepare

A nine-month plan

  1. Months one to two — the movement paper first Counter-intuitive and correct. It is finite, it is a full paper, and starting with it means it gets revised the most times before the exam.
  2. Months two to four — polity and Indian society The Constitution studied properly, once, rather than skimmed three times. Then social structure and policy, which is where Paper II is won.
  3. Months four to six — economy, national and state Concepts first, then the Telangana economy specifically. Keep the state’s own publications to hand for figures.
  4. Months five to eight — general studies and abilities, daily Science, geography, environment and reasoning in short daily blocks rather than long sessions, since this paper is about breadth.
  5. Throughout — current affairs, twenty minutes a day National and Telangana together, in your own notes. It cannot be compressed into the last month, and every paper draws on it.
  6. Last two months — full mocks and revision only No new material. Weekly full-length papers, and revision cycles that get shorter each time.

The rotation matters as much as the order. Touch every paper every week, even briefly, because four subjects studied in sequence means the first is nine months stale by the examination. A weekly cycle of four short revision slots is what keeps all four papers live at once.

Group 2 preparation carries into Group 3 and Group 4

The general studies spine, the state content and the movement material are shared across the TGPSC groups. Candidates preparing seriously for Group 2 are usually eligible for Group 3 and Group 4 as well, and applying for all three is normal practice — the marginal work is the paper structure rather than the syllabus.

A six-month plan for a candidate who is also working

  1. Month one — the state layer, alone. Telangana history, geography, economy and the movement. Studied first because it is the least crowded material and because it takes the longest to feel secure.
  2. Months two and three — polity, economy, history. The general studies spine, one subject at a time to completion rather than three in rotation. Finish a subject before opening the next.
  3. Month four — science, environment, geography, current affairs. The breadth subjects, prepared through questions rather than through reading, because their syllabus has no natural end.
  4. Month five — full papers, twice a week. Under time, in one sitting. Weekday study is decided entirely by what the weekend’s papers exposed.
  5. Month six — revision of your own notes only. No new sources. A new book in the final month adds anxiety and displaces revision of material you have already half-learned.

One preparation, three recruitments

Groups 2, 3 and 4 overlap substantially in general studies and in the Telangana layer. A candidate preparing for Group 2 is close to prepared for the other two, and the marginal work is format rather than content — Group 4’s secretarial abilities paper, and Group 3’s own paper structure. Applying to every group you are eligible for costs a fraction of the preparation and multiplies the chances of a result.
