TGPSC Group 3 — How to prepare
A shared preparation, adapted per group
- Build the common core once Polity, modern history, Indian and Telangana geography, the state economy and the statehood movement. Every TGPSC group examines this material.
- Add current affairs as a daily habit, not a subject Twenty minutes covering national and Telangana developments, kept in your own notes. It feeds every paper in every group.
- Add the reasoning and general abilities layer Shared with Group 4’s secretarial abilities paper and with Group 2’s general abilities paper. A small, reliable block of marks.
- Adapt only at the end When a notification comes, the work is learning that group’s paper count, marks and timing — a week of adjustment on a base you already have.
This is not a shortcut. It is a recognition that TGPSC examines one body of material across several recruitments, and that a candidate whose preparation is organised by subject rather than by notification can sit whichever recruitment opens. Applying to Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 in the same cycle is ordinary practice.
Eligibility still has to be checked per recruitment
Sharing preparation does not mean sharing eligibility. Age limits, qualification requirements, local status and any post-specific conditions are set separately in each notification, and they occasionally differ between groups. Check them for each recruitment you apply to.
What to do in the weeks after a notification appears
- Read the syllabus attached to the notification line by line — against your existing notes, marking anything it names that you have not covered. That list is the whole of your new work.
- Fix the paper arithmetic — questions, marks, minutes and the negative marking rule, converted into a per-question pace you then practise at.
- Sit a full simulation in week one, not week four — so the gap between your current state and the paper is known while there is still time to act on it.
- Stop reading new material two weeks out — the last fortnight belongs to revision and mocks. Material met for the first time in that window rarely survives to the examination.
- The subject notes
- Organised by subject and never by recruitment: polity, modern history, geography, economy, science and environment. Written once, revised repeatedly, and used unchanged for whichever TGPSC recruitment opens.
- The Telangana file
- One file for the state layer across every group — history and culture, geography, the economy, state schemes and the statehood movement. It is the most reused document in a Telangana candidate’s preparation and the one worth the most care.
- The abilities drill
- Reasoning, analytical ability and data interpretation, practised in short sessions rather than studied. Fifteen minutes twice a week keeps a skill that decays fast and appears in every group’s papers.
The reason to hold that structure is that TGPSC does not notify its recruitments on a predictable calendar. A candidate organised by subject can respond to a notification with a week of format adjustment. A candidate organised by recruitment spends the first month of every notification window rebuilding notes they already had, which is a month taken from practice.
