Syllabus
TGPSC Group 3 — What the syllabus covers
- Paper I — General Studies and General Abilities
- Current affairs of regional, national and international importance; general science and everyday applications; developments in science, technology and information technology; environmental issues and disaster management; world, Indian and Telangana geography; Indian history and cultural heritage; society, the Constitution and governance; logical reasoning, analytical ability and data interpretation.
- Paper II — History, Polity and Society
- The socio-cultural history of India and of Telangana; the Constitution and the political system, including the structure of government, rights and duties and the machinery of governance; social structure, social issues and public policy. Telangana’s history, its social reform movements and the statehood movement are examined within this paper.
- Paper III — Economy and Development
- The Indian economy — national income, agriculture, industry and services, planning, public finance, money and banking; the economy of Telangana, including resources, agriculture, irrigation, power and industrial policy; and issues of development, poverty, employment and welfare.
The Telangana movement does not disappear when it is not a separate paper. It is examined inside the history, polity and society paper and in the general studies paper, which means the same material is needed and only its share of the total changes. Prepare it as though it were a full paper regardless of how it is packaged.
The same body of material, packaged differently by each group. Read across a row to see how much of one subject a single paper has to carry.| Material | In Group 2 | In Group 3 | In Group 4 |
|---|
| General studies and current affairs | A paper of its own, with a general abilities block. | Paper I, carrying the reasoning and data interpretation block as well. | Most of the general studies paper. |
|---|
| History, polity and society | Distributed across papers, with the Constitution given real room. | Concentrated into Paper II alongside social structure and public policy. | Compressed to the level a general studies paper reaches. |
|---|
| Economy and development | A paper of its own, national and state together. | Paper III, national concepts applied to the state’s economy. | A section rather than a paper. |
|---|
| The Telangana layer | Substantially a paper of its own. | Inside Papers I and II, at undiminished depth. | Inside general studies, at prelims-level depth. |
|---|
| Reasoning and abilities | A general abilities component. | Inside Paper I. | A full secretarial abilities paper of its own. |
|---|
That table is the argument for preparing by subject rather than by recruitment. The reading list does not change between the groups; only the container does. A candidate whose notes are organised as “polity”, “state economy” and “the movement” can sit whichever recruitment is notified. A candidate whose notes are organised as “Group 3 Paper II” has to rebuild them the moment a different notification appears.
