TGPSC Group 3 Study Material

A shared syllabus means a shared reading list. What changes between the groups is how much revision each subject gets, not what you read.

TGPSC Group 3 — Study material for this exam

The core list

  • Polity — one standard reference on the Constitution and the political system, revised rather than replaced.
  • Economy — a concepts text, plus the state’s socio-economic publications for the Telangana portion.
  • History — a modern India narrative, and state board textbooks for Telangana’s social and cultural history.
  • Geography — physical geography from a school text upwards, then Indian and Telangana geography — rivers, projects, districts, resources.
  • The statehood movement — one account plus a chronology built from past questions, revised weekly.

Telangana state board textbooks are the single most efficient source in this list. They are written at close to the level the papers examine, they are internally consistent, and the Telangana content in most compiled guides is drawn from them.

Using one set of notes across three recruitments

  • Organise notes by subject, never by exam — a polity file serves Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 alike. A "Group 3 file" has to be rebuilt the moment a different notification appears.
  • Keep the Telangana material in one place — geography, history, culture, state schemes and the statehood movement in a single file, since every TGPSC paper draws on it.
  • Mark depth rather than duplicating — where one group goes deeper than another, note it in the margin instead of keeping two versions of the same topic.
  • Date your current-affairs notes — so that when a notification fixes an examination window you can see immediately which months matter.

Getting the most out of state board textbooks

  • Read them for the state chapters first — the Telangana history, geography and economy chapters are pitched close to the level the papers examine, and most compiled guides are drawn from them anyway.
  • Use the exercise questions as a checklist — the end-of-chapter questions name what the book considers the examinable points. Answering them in a line each is faster and more useful than making linear notes.
  • Do not read them for national subjects at the same depth — for polity and modern history a standard competitive reference goes further. The board texts earn their place on the state material specifically.
  • Check the edition against current administrative divisions — district boundaries and administrative units in Telangana have been reorganised. Where a text and a current government source disagree on such a detail, the government source is authoritative.

A revision file you can read in one evening

Whatever else you keep, build one document that holds only what you keep forgetting: the dates you confuse, the articles you swap, the schemes whose department you cannot recall, the projects whose river you mix up. Add to it whenever a mock exposes something. By the final month it should be readable in an evening, and it will be worth more than any book on the shelf.
