TGPSC Group 3 — Using mock tests as a measurement

The gap between a Group 3 notification and its examination is not always generous. A candidate who has been sitting full-length objective papers regularly for other TGPSC recruitments arrives with the format already familiar and only has to adjust the paper count. A candidate starting from scratch is learning exam craft and subject matter at once.

A testing routine that stays ready

  1. A full-length objective paper every week, whatever is notified The subject can rotate; the habit should not. This is what makes a short notification window survivable.
  2. Sectional tests on the state content, fortnightly Telangana geography, history, economy and the movement. Finite material, and the fastest-improving part of any score.
  3. A reasoning and data interpretation drill, twice a week Twenty minutes. It is a mechanical skill and it decays quickly without use.
  4. Full three-paper simulation once the notification is out Papers back to back on one day, to find where concentration actually fails.

Test the state content separately from everything else

A general mock dilutes the Telangana questions across a full paper, which hides how you are doing on them. Pull them out: a twenty-question test on state geography, history, schemes and the statehood movement, sat fortnightly, gives you a reading on the block that most differentiates candidates. It is also the fastest score to move, because the material is finite and the questions repeat.

Reading a three-paper mock. Score the papers separately and never average them.
Pattern in the resultThe likely causeThe correction
Paper I weak, Papers II and III fineCurrent affairs and the reasoning block, which decay without weekly contact.Twenty minutes daily on current affairs; two timed reasoning sets a week.
Paper II weakThe Constitution and social policy studied by reading rather than by questions.Move to a question bank on polity and society for a fortnight; stop rereading.
Paper III weakNational economic concepts understood, state application not.Work through the state’s own economic publications and tie every concept to a state example.
All three within a few marks of each other, and lowA coverage problem rather than a subject problem.Return to finishing subjects one at a time. Rotation across three subjects at once is the usual cause.
Good on topic tests, poor on full papersStamina and pacing, not knowledge.Sit full papers back to back on one day, weekly, until the drop-off disappears.

Keep the marks from every mock in one sheet with the date, and plot nothing else. The useful signal is the slope over two months, not any single score. A candidate whose scores move sideways for eight weeks is revising rather than learning, and the correction is to replace reading time with question time — not to sit more mocks.
