LIC ADO — How the paper is structured

The pattern is that of the 2023 zonal notifications, which repeated 2019. The most useful thing to know about it is the difference between the two stages: the prelims locks each section to 20 minutes, while the mains is one 120-minute sitting in which time can be moved to the section that pays.

How the marks work

No negative marking at either stage. Prelims English is qualifying and prelims marks are for shortlisting only. The mains is a single 120-minute sitting without section timers, so time can be moved between sections — the opposite of the AAO mains. Agents and employees sit the mains and interview only.

Because the mains has no section timers, the 60-mark insurance section can be done first while the mind is fresh, and the reasoning and numerical section — 50 marks that take longest — can be given the remaining time. Attempt everything: there is no penalty. Prelims marks are not carried forward; final merit is 160 mains marks plus 40 interview marks, so the interview is a fifth of the outcome.
